Design Studio — Visualize Your Floors Before You Install

How to Use the Design Studio to Plan Your New Floors

The Design Studio above lets you browse our flooring catalog and preview products in a photo of a room before you commit. Here is how to get the most out of it, and how it fits into a showroom visit and free in-home estimate.

What the Design Studio does

Choosing flooring from a small sample can be hard. A plank or tile that looks perfect in your hand can feel very different across an entire room. The Design Studio, powered by Roomvo, helps close that gap. You can browse flooring products from our catalog, open a product to see more detail, and use the visualizer to see how that floor could look in a room. You can use one of the sample rooms or upload a photo of your own space, then switch between products to compare colors, patterns, and plank styles in seconds.

It works on a phone, tablet, or computer, so you can try ideas while standing in the room you plan to update. That makes it easier to judge how a floor color works with your walls, cabinets, furniture, and natural light.

The Design Studio is especially helpful when several people share the decision. Instead of describing a floor color over the phone, you can send a screenshot of the preview, compare two or three options together, and agree on a short list before your showroom visit. It is also a handy way to test bolder ideas, such as a darker floor, a herringbone-style look, or a large-format tile, without any commitment. Many homeowners find that trying a few unexpected options helps them confirm what they really want.

Tips for taking a good room photo

The visualizer works best with a clear photo. A few simple steps make a big difference in how realistic the preview looks.

  • Stand in a corner or doorway so a large area of floor is visible
  • Turn on the lights and open blinds for even, natural light
  • Hold the camera at about chest height and keep it level
  • Move small rugs, toys, and clutter off the floor if you can
  • Take photos of each room you plan to update, since lighting changes from room to room

Compare materials, not just colors

It is tempting to choose a floor on color alone, but each material has strengths that suit different rooms. Waterproof luxury vinyl plank and tile handle kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and entries well. Engineered hardwood and solid wood bring real wood character to living and dining areas. Laminate offers a wood look with strong scratch resistance for busy homes, and carpet adds comfort to bedrooms and family rooms. Use the Design Studio to narrow the look you like, then read our flooring pages to choose the material that fits how each room is used.

Think about the whole room

Floors rarely change on their own. If you are also planning new cabinets, countertops, or paint, preview the floor with those changes in mind. A warm wood tone can balance white or light cabinets, while a cooler gray or light oak can brighten a room with darker finishes. Wider planks can make a large open area feel calmer, and a consistent floor that runs through connected rooms helps a home feel larger and more cohesive.

Because our team also handles kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, custom kitchen cabinets, countertops, and painting, we can help you plan floors together with the rest of the project so every surface works as a set.

Bring your favorites to the showroom

A screen is a great place to start, but colors on a phone or monitor are never exact. Once you have a short list, visit our McKinney showroom at 4900 W Eldorado Pkwy STE 108 or our Keller showroom at 2041 Rufe Snow Dr #303 to see and feel full-size samples. Bring screenshots from the Design Studio, a cabinet door, or a paint chip, and our team will help you compare options side by side. Many homeowners take samples home to see them in their own lighting before making a final choice.

From preview to installation

When you are ready, schedule a free in-home estimate. We will measure your rooms, look at the existing floor and subfloor, discuss transitions and stairs, and give you a clear estimate for the materials you have chosen. After you approve the estimate, our in-house installation team schedules the work and handles the project from removal of the old floor to the final walkthrough.

To see how other homeowners used these materials, browse completed projects on our Our Work page, or read our blog for tips on choosing flooring and planning a remodel.

Common Design Studio questions

Do I need to create an account? You can browse the catalog and try the visualizer right on this page. Can I compare more than one product? Yes, you can switch between products in the same room photo to compare them quickly. Will the floor look exactly like the preview? The visualizer is a planning tool, so screen color, lighting, and photo angle all affect what you see. That is why we recommend confirming your choice with real samples in our showroom or in your home before ordering.

Does the Design Studio include every product we offer? The catalog is a great starting point, but our showrooms carry samples that you can see and touch, and our team can suggest similar products if a specific style is not shown. If you are not sure where to begin, start with the room you use most, try three or four very different looks, and notice which one you keep coming back to. That simple exercise often makes the final decision much easier.
